- CHECKLIST: What data do I need for a successful horse sale?
- Horse breed
- Age
- Height
- Colour
- Gender
- Pedigree
- Discipline and level of training
- Other characteristics (stands for the farrier, loads easily)
- Contact data
- FIND THE RIGHT PRICE
You are unsure about the selling price? For orientation you can search on ehorses for horses
that are similar to your horse in height, level of training, age etc.. This will give you a first
overview. There is no rule of thumb for setting the price.
- FINDING THE RIGHT TITLE
One of the first things prospective buyers will see is the title of your ad. So choose a
meaningful title that makes people want to get to know the horse better. An example would
be: “Promising dressage youngster with above-average gaits, successfully competing at
novice level”.
- DESCRIPTION OF THE HORSE FOR SALE
- Try to put yourself in the shoes of the potential buyer – What does your “ideal buyer”
for this horse look like and what information might interest him? - Interior (e.g. strong character)
- Exterior
- Level of training
- (show) successes
- Special features of the horse
- Information on current x-ray pictures (if available)
Stick to the truth and highlight special strengths of your horse.
- HOW TO TAKE PHOTOS AND VIDEOS OF YOUR HORSE
You should never forgo photos and especially videos when trying to give the prospective
buyer as comprehensive an impression of the horse as possible. Remember: You never get
a second chance to make a first impression!
- CHECKLIST: What you should look out for when taking photos
- Well groomed horse
- Neat halter or bridle
- Nice, bright background
- Good lighting conditions → light should come from the front
- Pay attention to the picture quality, try to create sharp pictures
TIP: The best perspective is at the horse’s heart level with a few metres distance to the
animal.
- CHECKLIST: What you should look out for with video recordings
- Show the horse in all gaits
- Emphasise the horse’s strengths
- Short clips of everyday situations (grooming, loading etc.)
- Pay attention to exposure & quality
ATTENTION: Pay attention to the copyrights. Please only use images that you hold the
rights to. Third parties must also give their consent if they are to be seen in photos or videos.
- YOUR CONTACT DETAILS
The first customer contact is extremely important. Here, the decision is made as to whether
you can convince the prospective customer of your horse. So if you are unable to attend at
certain times of the day, it is best to include this directly in the description text of your
advertisement.
