Wow! There’s just two days to go before HOYS begins! Meet two handlers who will be making their HOYS debuts showing miniature horses…
Scott’s Little Lady and Megan Grace Thomas will both be making their HOYS debut having won the filly or colt qualifier at the British Miniature Horse Society breed show and taking reserve champion. “Lady is making Megan’s dream become a reality,” said Megan’s mum, Rachael Dilcock-Thomas. “Lady won at the RIHS last year with her owner Charlotte Leonard Richards who has always been so encouraging and supportive of Megan. She is a true friend and role model to give Megan this opportunity she is a true friend and role model.” Megan started showing miniatures in 2019 when she had lost her confidence riding. Since then, she has regained her confidence in the saddle but has continued to enjoy showing her miniatures. She has previously watched and supported sister Annie at HOYS, and is super excited to not only be cheering Annie on again this year, but to also be showing herself. “I cannot wait to walk into the Arena of Dreams,” said Megan, “After watching my sister and so many friends, I can’t believe that I am having my chance to show there.”
Ashley Schofield and will be accompanied for her first time in the ring at HOYS by 10-year-old Strikes Wild Flower (Bud). “Bud was bred by Wendy Edgar and we bought her from Brenda Thompson. Mum bought her as a surprise Christmas present for me; she came gift wrapped with a bow in her forelock” said Ashley. The pair qualified for HOYS at NCPA Derbyshire Festival, taking first in the mares and geldings class and then standing champion. They have previously qualified for RIHS and finished third in Bud’s class. Her other results this year include champion at Higher Farm and champion at the Cheshire Horse Show. “Bud lives with four other miniatures and enjoys hacking out with her friends,” said Ashley. “I am really looking forward to The HOYS atmosphere and trotting round the Top Spec Arena.”
