The first is a new scheme to provide support for amateur riders. A list of accredited trainers will be available on the BSHA website along with information on how to book a clinic in your area. Each trainer on the list has enjoyed a successful career in showing and has a long-standing relationship with the BSHA, and it’s hoped that more trainers will become accredited as the scheme gains momentum.
“We aim to provide the grass roots, newcomer amateur competitors with a support network to help them on their journey, with regular clinics which will be taking place to give competitors easy access to relevant training,” said a BSHA spokesperson.
The BSHA has also announced a new ‘Rising Star’ series. The accredited trainers will award deserving attendees at their clinics a qualification to the BSHA National Championship Show in September and an opportunity to represent that trainer in the Supreme Final. Two further clinics will be offered to all those that qualify during the summer to support their preparation for the championships. The winner of the Rising Star Supreme Final will receive a bursary donated by the Talbot Family to use with an accredited trainer of their choice to prepare them for the following season.
The new Rising Star Series is open to both BSHA members and non-members and qualification classes will be available at local riding club level as well as at BSHA Affiliated shows. The first two placed competitors will qualify for the Supreme Final. Horses will not be ridden by a judge during the qualifying classes, but there will be a ride judge for the final.
“This is an exciting new series of classes which will create a progressive way to include new people into our sport,” said the spokesperson.
Finally, the championship show will host a new Racehorse to Show Horse final. This will be open to anyone wishing to compete their Thoroughbred after it has retired from the track, as the “association recognizes the importance of supporting the breed and those animals leaving the racing industry”. As this is an open class, horses will be ridden by a ride judge.
Further information will soon be available in the 2022 BSHA Rule Book and on the BSHA website.
